Although we are not building the Low-Band Array (LBA) this year, we are keeping a careful eye on the proposed area for it and are monitoring ground conditions in preparation for the test build and actual deployment next year.
As the snow melts, small rivers start to form under the ice, flowing down into the fields (including the one proposed for the LBA). The following photograph was taken this morning (8th June 2011). It shows one of the gulleys still filled with snow. However, underneath there is a quickly flowing stream.
And here is where that stream flows out into the LBA field itself, joining others coming from the opposite direction. Regardless of where we put the LBA, we are going to be faced with the huge problem of melt-water.
No challenge, no fun... right?
