HBA installation progress — 06-Jul-2011

Today was a very hectic day. As hinted at last night, there was a lorry ready to go first thing this morning, so that meant and early start. Some of the team arrived super early to accept the delivery and get the new tiles out of the way so we could make a decent start with deploying some of them onto the field.

Importantly, the delivery this morning contained the first batch of covers. These are the large black plastic covers that go over the entire tile and secure it to the frameset and protect it from the rain.

So, when the rest of the team arrived at the regular start time, they could hit the ground running and we unfolded and deployed our first HBA tile.

The work then continued at as steady pace, so that by the end of the day we'd managed to get five tiles deployed (each with a frameset, of course), plus one additional frameset ready for a new tile deployment in the morning.

Here's the updated status map.

As you can see, we are working along the southwest column and we have already spanned the first 'snow corridor'.

It has been an exhausting day, but we all finished with smiles on our faces. It is very gratifying to see the array start to take shape. Numerous web log posts, with all the details and lots of photographs will be posted over the next 24 hours. So remember to visit often to keep up-to-date with the work going on here at Kilpisjärvi.
